New Orleans, LA – A dense fog advisory is in effect for much of southern Louisiana, southeastern Mississippi, and southwest Alabama, with visibility expected to drop below one-quarter mile during early morning hours Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Lake Charles, New Orleans, and Mobile, the advisory begins at 3 a.m. CDT and remains in effect until 10 a.m. for inland areas, with marine warnings also in place across coastal waters and bays through 9–10 a.m. The advisory covers major cities including New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Mobile, Biloxi, and Pensacola, impacting both land and marine travel.

Drivers are urged to use headlights, reduce speed, and increase following distance during their morning commutes. Mariners should activate navigation lights, use radar when possible, and avoid unnecessary travel in limited visibility conditions.

The advisory spans inland highways and roadways in 50+ parishes and counties, including stretches of I-10, I-12, and I-59. Fog-prone marine zones such as Lake Pontchartrain, Mobile Bay, and the Mississippi Sound are also included.

This type of widespread fog is common during early spring in the Gulf region due to warm, moist air over cooler land and water surfaces. Commuters and boaters are advised to monitor updates and take extra precautions until conditions improve late Tuesday morning.
