Huntsville, Alabama – North Alabama residents should brace for dangerously hot conditions Wednesday, as heat index values climb to 103° across cities from Florence to Cullman. With the advisory in place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., outdoor activity and travel may become risky for anyone without access to air conditioning.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a heat advisory covers Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, and Cullman counties throughout the day. Temperatures and humidity will combine to create oppressive conditions in Huntsville, Decatur, Athens, and Muscle Shoals, with local officials urging people to limit time outdoors and stay hydrated.

Cities including Florence, Moulton, and Tuscumbia will see the most dangerous heat by mid-afternoon. Health departments warn heat illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible, especially for children, seniors, and those working outside. Power companies advise residents to monitor energy use, while emergency managers recommend checking on neighbors and keeping pets cool.

Avoid outdoor exercise during peak hours, use fans or air conditioning, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Heat advisories like this are common in July, but this stretch of triple-digit heat comes just as many schools and summer camps remain active.

The advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday, and additional warnings may follow if the heat persists through the week.
