Birmingham, AL – A major crash involving a commercial vehicle has closed all northbound lanes of Interstate 59 in Jefferson County early Friday morning, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
The collision occurred around 4:03 a.m. near the 118 mile marker and resulted in a full northbound shutdown. Officials said the closure will remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time as troopers investigate and crews work to clear the roadway.
According to ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division, multiple vehicles were involved in the incident, which caused significant traffic disruption across the Birmingham metro area. Motorists traveling northbound on I-59 are being urged to seek alternate routes and expect extended delays during the morning commute.
