Alabama Homicide Investigation: Alexander City Home Invasion Leaves One Dead, Suspect Arrested Saturday

Alexander City, AL – A man was killed during a reported home invasion robbery in Alexander City on Saturday, prompting a homicide investigation led by state and local authorities.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the incident occurred around 11:15 a.m. Saturday in the 4000 Block of Washington Street within Tallapoosa County. ALEA Special Agents were called to the scene after Alexander City Police requested assistance following reports that Toyias Gopher, 32, of Alexander City, was allegedly found fatally wounded by gunfire.

Authorities allege that Steven Abercrombie, 22, also of Alexander City, was arrested in connection with the incident and has officially been charged with Capital Murder. According to officials, Abercrombie was booked into the Tallapoosa County Jail following his arrest.

ALEA expressed appreciation to several agencies for their support, including the Alexander City Police Department, the Montgomery Police Department, the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Montgomery Office, and the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.

As of Sunday, the investigation remains ongoing, and further details have not been released. Upon completion, the findings are expected to be turned over to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office for further review.
