Huntsville, Ala. – Drivers, outdoor workers, and vulnerable residents in northwest Alabama should brace for dangerous heat Sunday as a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m., with heat index values reaching up to 107°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the advisory covers counties including Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin, where actual high temperatures will top out between 91° and 94°. The alert warns of “moderate to major” heat risk, particularly in Russellville, Florence, and Muscle Shoals. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during the afternoon and stay hydrated.

Cities across northern Alabama will continue to experience excessive heat this week. Monday through Thursday, heat index readings will hover between 98°F and 107°F, with daily highs pushing into the mid-90s. Emergency officials stress the importance of recognizing heat illness symptoms, dressing in light-colored clothing, and never leaving pets or people in parked vehicles.

With extreme heat often proving more deadly than other weather hazards, those without access to air conditioning are especially vulnerable. Cooling centers may open if conditions worsen, and schools or events could modify schedules.

Heat advisories are expected to remain possible throughout the week. Residents should monitor local alerts and prepare for extended periods of hot, humid conditions.
