Birmingham, Alabama – Gardeners and farmers across Alabama and north Georgia face a chilly early Friday morning as temperatures drop into the mid-30s, creating widespread frost that could damage sensitive plants before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a Frost Advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. until 10 a.m. Friday across much of central and northern Alabama, including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Hoover, Gadsden, Anniston, Selma, and Jasper. Temperatures may dip to around 36°F, cold enough for frost to form on exposed surfaces.

At the same time, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Frost Advisory from 2 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday for a wide portion of north and west-central Georgia, including Atlanta, Marietta, Lawrenceville, Rome, Carrollton, and Peachtree City. Overnight lows near 35°F could lead to patchy frost across lawns, rooftops, and gardens.

The greatest impacts will occur in sheltered areas where winds become calm overnight, allowing temperatures to fall rapidly before sunrise.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants, especially early spring vegetation and garden seedlings. Farmers may also need to protect crops vulnerable to freezing conditions.

Temperatures will warm quickly after mid-morning Friday as sunshine returns, reducing the frost threat across both states. However, the cold start could still leave early-season vegetation damaged if left unprotected.
