Atlanta, Georgia – Winter weather chances are gradually increasing across parts of Alabama and Georgia, with snow probabilities now ranging from 15% to 35%, highest near the Alabama–Georgia border, as a developing East Coast storm system influences the Southeast between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, a strengthening coastal low is expected to move northward along the Eastern Seaboard this weekend. While the primary storm track remains east of the region, colder air filtering southward combined with expanding moisture is increasing the potential for wintry precipitation farther inland.

The highest probabilities, near 25%–35%, are focused across northeastern Alabama and western to north-central Georgia, including areas near Interstate 20, Interstate 85, and U.S. Highway 78. Locations farther south and west remain closer to the 15%–20% range.

Any winter precipitation would most likely occur late Saturday into Sunday, mainly during overnight or early morning hours. Snowfall amounts, if they occur, are expected to be light, but even minor accumulations could create slick conditions on bridges, elevated roadways, and untreated surfaces.

Travel impacts, if realized, would be most likely along I-20 between Birmingham and Atlanta, as well as higher terrain areas and shaded roadways. Reduced visibility is possible during any snow showers.

Forecasters emphasize that confidence remains low to moderate, but trends show increasing winter potential as colder air becomes more established. Small changes in storm track or temperature profiles could further raise or lower snow chances.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official forecasts and remain prepared for changing conditions. Weekend travelers, commuters, and early-morning drivers across Alabama and Georgia should stay alert as winter weather probabilities continue to trend upward.
