Residents across portions of southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia are facing a dangerous hard freeze overnight tonight into Monday morning, with temperatures expected to plunge as low as 22 degrees by 1 a.m., prompting an active Freeze Warning across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the Freeze Warning remains in effect from 1 a.m. EST (midnight CST) through 9 a.m. EST Monday, while a Cold Weather Advisory continues through 10 a.m. EST. Forecasters say the cold air mass will bring sub-freezing temperatures and biting wind chills as low as 13 degrees, creating hazardous conditions for anyone outdoors without proper protection.

The warning impacts dozens of counties across southeast Alabama and south-central to southwest Georgia, including areas near Dothan, Enterprise, Albany, Valdosta, Bainbridge, and surrounding rural communities. A Freeze Watch is also in effect for late Monday night into Tuesday morning, signaling another potential hard freeze with temperatures again near 22 degrees.

Officials warn that frost and freezing conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and burst unprotected outdoor pipes. The cold also poses risks to pets, livestock, and vulnerable populations, particularly those without access to adequate heating.

Residents are urged to bring pets indoors, cover tender plants, wrap or drip exposed pipes, and check on elderly neighbors. Portable heaters should be used carefully, and generators or grills should never be operated indoors.

Travelers heading out early Monday morning should dress in layers, including hats and gloves, as wind chills will make conditions feel significantly colder.
