Tallahassee, FL – A refreshing fall air mass is moving into the Florida Panhandle and surrounding areas, bringing cooler, drier conditions along with an elevated fire risk midweek, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee.

Forecasters said a reinforcing cold front will sweep through the region Tuesday, ushering in crisp mornings with lows in the 40s and 50s, followed by daytime highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s through the weekend.

However, the same dry air mass will cause relative humidity levels to drop to critically low levels—as low as 20–25% in parts of south Georgia, southeast Alabama, and inland Florida on Wednesday and Thursday. These conditions will increase the potential for grass and brush fires from Wednesday through Friday.

The NWS advises residents to avoid outdoor burning, properly discard smoking materials, and use caution with any equipment that may produce sparks. Fire danger is expected to remain elevated until humidity levels recover over the weekend.
