Birmingham, AL – The National Weather Service offices in Birmingham and Huntsville have issued a Frost Advisory from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Friday, covering nearly all of northern and central Alabama.

According to the NWS, overnight temperatures will fall into the mid-30s, with frost formation likely—especially in valleys and low-lying areas. Residents in cities such as Birmingham, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Gadsden, Decatur, Florence, and Selma should prepare for a chilly start to Friday.

The advisory affects more than two dozen counties, including Jefferson, Madison, Tuscaloosa, Blount, Limestone, Etowah, Calhoun, Marion, and Dallas. Sensitive outdoor plants and crops may be damaged or killed if left unprotected overnight.

Forecasters encourage residents to cover tender vegetation and bring in potted plants before temperatures drop. The frost is expected to dissipate shortly after sunrise as skies clear and temperatures rebound into the upper 50s to lower 60s by afternoon.

This marks one of the first widespread frost events of the season for Alabama, signaling the transition toward cooler November weather across the state.
