Birmingham, AL – The National Weather Service in Birmingham is forecasting a hard freeze and potential record-breaking cold across much of central Alabama Monday night into early Tuesday, November 11.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the low to mid-20s, with some locations such as Hamilton, Fayette, and Jasper falling near 20°F by sunrise. Even southern areas including Montgomery, Selma, and Auburn will experience lows in the mid-20s, marking one of the coldest November nights in recent years.
Forecasters urge residents to protect pipes, plants, and pets, as subfreezing temperatures are expected for several hours overnight. Frost and freeze conditions could also affect early-season agriculture and unheated structures.
Despite the frigid start, a warming trend will quickly take hold Tuesday, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 40s to lower 50s, followed by a steady warm-up through the week. By Friday and Saturday, temperatures are forecast to reach the mid to upper 70s under sunny, dry skies — nearly 50 degrees warmer than Monday night’s lows.
