Birmingham, AL – A dense fog advisory is in effect this morning, creating hazardous travel conditions across Alabama’s southeastern counties. Visibility is expected to drop below 1/4 mile, particularly near major roadways like Interstate 20 and Highway 280. Drivers are urged to slow down and use low-beam headlights to navigate through the dense fog.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will remain in place until 9 a.m. Saturday, with patchy fog lingering into late morning. Afterward, attention turns to severe thunderstorms forecasted later in the day. Rain and isolated storms will move through Birmingham by Saturday night, bringing gusty winds up to 30 mph and rainfall between one and two inches. Flash flooding is possible in low-lying areas.
Sunday’s forecast includes a 50% chance of morning storms, with skies clearing by the afternoon. Temperatures will reach highs near 64°F, offering some relief from Saturday’s active weather. Looking ahead to New Year’s Day, sunny skies and cooler temperatures in the 50s are expected, providing an ideal start to 2025.
Residents should prepare for potential power outages and monitor local weather updates for real-time alerts. Secure outdoor items and avoid travel during peak storm hours.
