Tallahassee, Florida – Snowfall is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across parts of southeast Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and south-central to southwest Georgia early Sunday, as a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through late morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the warning is in effect from 4 a.m. EST (3 a.m. CST) to noon EST (11 a.m. CST) Sunday and covers a broad tri-state region including southeast Alabama, portions of the Florida Panhandle, and much of south-central and southwest Georgia.
Forecasters expect snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches, with isolated or spotty totals up to 3 inches possible. While totals may appear modest, snow of this magnitude is unusual for the region and can quickly lead to slick and hazardous road conditions, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways.
The warning area includes communities such as Dothan, Enterprise, Ozark, Albany, Leesburg, Camilla, Blakely, Marianna, Bonifay, Graceville, and Dawson, along with numerous rural highways where snow removal resources are limited.
The National Weather Service warns that reduced visibility is possible during heavier snowfall, particularly during the early morning hours. Travel impacts are most likely during the morning commute, when temperatures remain cold enough for snow to accumulate on road surfaces.
Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel while the warning is in effect. Drivers who must be on the road should slow down, increase following distance, and carry emergency supplies, including food and water, in case of delays.
Road condition updates are available by dialing 511 in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. Conditions are expected to gradually improve later today as snowfall tapers off and temperatures rise.
