Mobile, AL – Dense fog is spreading across portions of south Alabama, northwest Florida, and southeast Mississippi early Wednesday morning, reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions along the Gulf Coast.

According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 AM Wednesday, covering areas from Wilcox, Monroe, Butler, and Escambia counties in Alabama to Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Escambia counties in northwest Florida. A second advisory also continues for Mobile and Baldwin counties, as well as Wayne, Perry, Greene, Stone, and George counties in southeast Mississippi.

Forecasters report widespread visibility reductions to a quarter mile or less, with pockets of dense fog affecting major corridors including I-10, I-65, US-29, US-90, and coastal routes near Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Milton, Atmore, and Foley.

According to the NWS, fog developed rapidly overnight as calm winds and saturated air pooled near the surface. Low-lying areas, marshlands, river valleys, and coastal inlets are expected to remain foggy until shortly after sunrise. Some of the densest fog is occurring near Mobile Bay and inland portions of Baldwin and Escambia counties.

Drivers may encounter abrupt visibility drops, difficulty identifying lane markers, and limited sight distance at intersections. Morning commuters through Mobile, Pensacola, Crestview, Monroeville, and Gulf Shores should allow extra time and use caution.

Fog is expected to begin lifting around 8–9 AM as temperatures rise, though patchy fog may linger slightly longer in coastal zones.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra following distance as long as fog persists.
