Birmingham, AL – Flood warnings continue to affect parts of Alabama as heavy rainfall has led to rising water levels along key rivers. The National Weather Service has extended the flood warning for the Locust Fork at Sayre, impacting Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.

The river, which was measured at 27.9 feet at 8 p.m. Monday, is expected to crest at 28.5 feet just after midnight. Flood stage is 25 feet, and minor flooding is anticipated along low-lying areas of the river. Flooding is expected to subside by late Tuesday morning. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and take precautions to stay safe.

Meanwhile, the Black Warrior River at Selden Lock and Dam remains under a flood warning. The river stage stood at 92.3 feet as of Monday evening, and is expected to crest at 99.4 feet by Wednesday evening. Minor flooding is forecast, with potential impacts to pasture lands, roads, and nearby cabins. Officials recommend moving livestock to higher ground and staying vigilant as conditions evolve.

For all impacted areas, authorities remind residents to “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads.
