Huntsville, AL – Drivers across northern Alabama are urged to use caution this morning as patchy freezing fog creates hazardous road conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that visibility may drop to half a mile or less in some areas, with black ice forming on bridges and overpasses. Conditions are expected to improve by 8 a.m., but travelers should allow extra time during the early morning hours.

According to the NWS, freezing fog is most likely in sheltered valleys, including stretches of roads near Huntsville, Muscle Shoals, and northern Tennessee. Temperatures at or below freezing are causing fog droplets to freeze on contact, creating slick surfaces. Motorists are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain plenty of distance from other vehicles.

Once the fog clears, the weekend is shaping up to be mostly sunny with calm conditions. Saturday will see a high near 42°F with north winds up to 10 mph. Sunday offers even warmer temperatures, reaching 47°F, with clear skies throughout the day.

Looking ahead, Monday brings sunny weather with a high of 52°F, followed by slightly warmer temperatures approaching 58°F by Tuesday. A slight chance of showers returns midweek, with increasing cloud cover into Christmas Eve.

Residents should remain alert this morning for rapidly changing road conditions. Tune in to local weather updates or NOAA Weather Radio for further information.
