Gray skies and mist cling to the Tennessee Valley this morning as Huntsville wakes to 44°F and a damp chill in the air. Light rain tapers off, leaving slick pavement and lingering fog that could quickly refreeze as temperatures drop toward the mid-30s. The early December chill is back — and it’s bringing some travel concerns with it.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, patchy freezing fog may develop through early Wednesday, especially in low-lying valleys and along bridges north of I-565. Drivers should allow extra time and watch for icy spots before sunrise. Any fog that forms will gradually lift by late morning, giving way to partly sunny skies and a more comfortable high near 50°F.
By Thursday, another weak system moves in from the west, bringing a 20–50% chance of scattered showers through the end of the week. While temperatures will hover in the upper 40s to near 50°F, the cool air could mix briefly with pockets of drizzle or light freezing mist early Thursday morning — though widespread icing is not expected.
Friday looks unsettled but mild, followed by a dry, sunny weekend with highs in the lower 50s. However, early mornings will stay near freezing through Sunday, keeping frost risk high for north Alabama lawns, cars, and bridges.
