Airway Heights, WA – A Spokane County burglary investigation that prompted a SWAT response earlier this week ended with an arrest Friday afternoon after officers located the suspect at a Spokane motel.
According to the Airway Heights Police Department, officers initially responded around 7:24 p.m. Wednesday to a reported commercial burglary in progress in the 2700 block of S. Garfield Road in the City of Airway Heights. During the investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest 37-year-old Rudy G. Parsons and his 15-year-old son for burglary in the second degree and theft in the first degree.
Police said Parsons allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived and could not be located that night. On Friday, January 16, at approximately 7:31 p.m., officers received information that Parsons might be inside a residence in the 1900 block of S. Lawson Street. After interviews and perimeter security were established, officers believed Parsons was inside and possibly armed with a rifle.
Due to safety concerns, Airway Heights Police requested assistance from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, crisis negotiators, and additional resources. Officers obtained a search warrant and issued repeated announcements requesting Parsons’ surrender. After several hours of attempted contact, negotiations, and use of less-lethal tactics, SWAT officers entered the residence but did not locate Parsons.
Parsons’ 15-year-old son was found at the scene, taken into custody, and later transported to the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center, according to police.
On Sunday, January 18, officers continued follow-up interviews and developed information indicating Parsons was staying at a motel in the 9500 block of N. Division Street in Spokane. At approximately 1:30 p.m., officers contacted Parsons inside a motel room and took him into custody without incident.
Police also contacted 40-year-old Amber Ashby at the scene. Following additional interviews, Ashby was arrested for allegedly rendering criminal assistance and making false statements.
Both Parsons and Ashby were booked into the Spokane County Jail. Police emphasized the case remains under investigation.
