Aibonito, Puerto Rico – Heavy rain is drenching Aibonito this afternoon, triggering a Flood Advisory through 6:15 p.m. AST as runoff overwhelms drainage systems and low-lying streets.

According to the National Weather Service in San Juan, Doppler radar detected intense thunderstorms over the region just before 3:30 p.m., dropping between 1 and 2 inches of rain in a short time. An additional inch is likely, which could worsen flooding in urban areas and small streams.

Residents are urged to avoid low-lying roads, especially where water may be hiding poor drainage spots. Minor flooding is already being reported, and conditions could deteriorate quickly if rainfall continues. The NWS warns that “most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” emphasizing the critical message: Turn around, don’t drown.

This advisory is focused on Aibonito but could expand if storms intensify across the interior. Stay alert for future advisories this evening as weather conditions evolve.
