Albany, NY – Snow will begin falling across the Adirondacks after 1 a.m. Wednesday, coating mountain highways and secondary roads with up to 6 inches before daybreak Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday for Hamilton and Northern Herkimer counties, including Old Forge, Long Lake, Eagle Bay and Big Moose. Total snowfall between 2 and 6 inches is expected, with the steadiest accumulation arriving overnight into Wednesday morning.
A fast-moving clipper system will spread widespread snow across the region through the morning commute. By Wednesday afternoon, a passing cold front may trigger scattered snow showers and isolated snow squalls, briefly dropping visibility and creating sudden slick stretches on Routes 28 and 30.
Behind the front, a short burst of lake-effect snow could redevelop Wednesday night, adding light additional accumulation before tapering early Thursday.
Drivers should slow down, allow extra travel time and watch for rapidly changing visibility during squalls. Road conditions can be checked by dialing 511. Snow showers diminish toward sunrise Thursday, though patchy slick spots may linger into the morning hours.
