Burlington, VT – The National Weather Service in Burlington reports that a clipper system will bring widespread light snow Sunday evening into Sunday night, followed by an arctic cold front that will plunge temperatures and wind chills into the negatives by early Monday.

According to the latest forecast, snow chances will sharply increase after sunset Sunday, reaching 85–100% probability overnight for much of northern Vermont and northern New York. Areas like Lake Placid, Malone, and Massena could see the harshest cold, with wind chills between -10°F and -15°F early Monday morning. Most of Vermont is expected to feel subzero chills from -2°F to -6°F.

While snowfall totals are expected to remain light, the combination of gusty northwest winds and fresh snow may create patchy blowing snow and slick morning commutes Monday.

Forecasters urge residents to bundle up and limit exposure, as frostbite could develop in as little as 30 minutes in the coldest locations.

Cold air will persist into early next week, with temperatures gradually moderating midweek.
