Old Forge, N.Y. – The central Adirondacks will feel an early blast of autumn chill overnight as a Frost Advisory goes into effect for Hamilton and northern Herkimer counties. Temperatures are expected to dip into the low to mid-30s, cold enough to damage unprotected gardens and outdoor vegetation.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the advisory is in place from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday. Communities including Old Forge, Long Lake, Big Moose, and Wells could see patchy frost on lawns and vehicles by daybreak.

Residents are urged to cover tender plants or bring potted varieties indoors before bedtime. Valleys, campgrounds, and low-lying areas are especially prone to frost formation where cold air settles overnight.

Drivers should also plan for frosted windshields during the early morning commute, adding a few extra minutes to travel. While sunshine will return Tuesday afternoon with highs in the 60s, forecasters caution that additional chilly nights later this week may bring repeated frost risks.
