Albany, N.Y. – The first hard freeze of the season will hit New York’s Adirondack interior early Saturday as temperatures drop into the upper 20s. A Freeze Warning has been issued for Hamilton County from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m., with towns including Long Lake, Wells, Hoffmeister, and Sabattis expected to see damaging cold.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, sub-freezing temperatures could destroy remaining crops and sensitive vegetation across the county. Homeowners are advised to protect outdoor plumbing, as exposed pipes may be vulnerable in colder valleys.
Gardeners and farmers are encouraged to bring potted plants indoors or cover tender vegetation before sunset Friday. Residents heading out early for hiking or camping in the Adirondacks should be prepared for frost-coated ground and morning lows more typical of late October.
While skies remain clear and winds light, conditions are favorable for rapid cooling in sheltered areas. The Freeze Warning remains in effect through sunrise Saturday, with another night of near-freezing cold possible Saturday night.
