NORTH CREEK, N.Y. – The North Country is waking up to a slick and icy Sunday morning as a light wintry mix continues across the Adirondacks and upper Hudson Valley. Though totals are minor, the combination of snow, sleet, and freezing drizzle is enough to make roads and sidewalks dangerously slippery through midday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Sunday for Northern Warren, Washington, Fulton, Hamilton, and Herkimer Counties. Forecasters expect up to one inch of snow with a light glaze of ice, particularly on bridges, elevated roadways, and shaded mountain passes.
Travelers on Route 9N, Route 28, and the Adirondack Northway (I-87) should use extra caution, as untreated surfaces could quickly become icy. Temperatures will hover near freezing through late morning, limiting melting even where precipitation tapers.
The Adirondack foothills and southern slopes near Lake George and Warrensburg will likely see the most persistent icing. Commuters and outdoor enthusiasts are advised to walk carefully on driveways and steps and to allow extra travel time.
The wintry mix will end around midday as temperatures rise slightly, giving way to cloudy, cool conditions. Colder air returns tonight, setting up another chance for light snow early in the week as the early November chill deepens across upstate New York.
