Wheaton, IL – A Chicago man has been charged after allegedly placing a recording device inside a restroom at the Church of God in Addison, prosecutors announced Friday.

According to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Police Chief Roy Selvik, 28-year-old Steven Segura was arrested and charged with one count of Unauthorized Video Recording, a Class 4 felony. Officials said the charge stems from an August 30, 2025, incident at the church, located at 1125 W. Army Trail Road.

According to the criminal complaint, Segura allegedly positioned a recording device in a public bathroom of the church in a way that would have captured individuals in a state of undress. Prosecutors added that one victim positively identified themselves as the individual who was recorded while using the restroom.

“The allegations that Mr. Segura placed a video-recording device in a church bathroom and then videotaped an individual are very disturbing,” Berlin said in a statement. Addison Police and DuPage County’s Digital Forensics Unit were credited with assisting in the investigation.

Segura appeared in court earlier this week and was released under conditions that bar him from contacting the victim or entering the Church of God. His next court date is set for October 20, 2025, before Judge Margaret O’Connell.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and urged anyone with additional information to contact the Addison Police Department at (630) 543-3080.
