Adams County, WI – A reported armed domestic violence incident last Wednesday led to a lengthy K-9 search and the arrest of an Arkdale man after deputies tracked him through snow-covered farm fields and wooded areas.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched Wednesday to a residence in the 1800 block of Cypress Avenue in Adams County for a domestic disturbance involving a firearm. Initial information indicated the suspect had allegedly discharged a weapon multiple times and was involved in a physical altercation at the home.

Deputies made contact with individuals at the residence, but the suspect was not located during an initial search. An exterior search revealed footprints in the snow heading north from the residence. K-9 Tekla was deployed and tracked the suspect across several farm fields, through wooded terrain with briars, and across a roadway.

Authorities said the K-9 track lasted approximately 35 minutes and covered about three-quarters of a mile before leading deputies to a barn on a separate property. The barn was filled with stacked round hay bales. K-9 Tekla alerted to the back corner of the barn, where deputies observed the suspect hiding on top of hay bales approximately 20 feet above the ground near the rafters.

The suspect initially did not comply with commands, according to the sheriff’s office. With assistance from K-9 Tekla and after several verbal commands, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Adams County Jail.

The suspect was identified as Bradley J. Scheel, 22, of Arkdale, Wisconsin. Scheel was arrested for Disorderly Conduct While Armed, Domestic Abuse, Criminal Damage to Property (Domestic), and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer. He was also held on a probation violation.

On Friday, December 26, Scheel was given a $2,500 signature bond in Adams County Circuit Court. Authorities said he remains incarcerated at the Adams County Jail on a probation hold.
