Abilene, Texas – Hot, dry conditions early this week will give way to scattered storms across West Central Texas, with the best chance for widespread rain arriving Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, showers and thunderstorms will be hit or miss through Tuesday, but coverage expands midweek. Some storms could produce strong downbursts or microbursts, capable of causing localized wind damage. Heavy rainfall may also trigger minor flooding on city streets and low water crossings.

Communities including Abilene, San Angelo, Brownwood, and Brady can expect temperatures near 100 degrees through Tuesday before rain chances rise and highs dip into the lower 90s by Thursday. While widespread severe weather is not expected, forecasters warn that a few stronger storms could still pack damaging winds.

Drivers are urged to watch for ponding on roads and avoid flooded crossings. Residents should also secure outdoor items that could be blown around in isolated gusts.

Storm chances remain in place through the weekend, with temperatures trending closer to seasonal averages as rain becomes more persistent. Additional alerts could be issued if storms strengthen.
