ABILENE, Texas – A stretch of summer-like warmth is on the way for West Central Texas, with near-record high temperatures expected by midweek. The National Weather Service in San Angelo says readings on Wednesday and Thursday could climb into the upper 80s to around 90 degrees—roughly 15 degrees above normal for early November.
According to the Weather Service, Abilene is forecast to reach 89°F Wednesday, just one degree shy of its 2007 record, and 88°F Thursday, matching the 1945 record. San Angelo is also expected to hit 88°F both days, with a 20–30% chance of tying or breaking long-standing marks. The unseasonable warmth comes under a strong ridge of high pressure dominating the southern Plains, keeping skies clear and conditions dry.
Light southwest winds will aid the warmup through Thursday before slightly cooler air arrives Friday. Despite the late-week cooldown, temperatures will remain well above normal heading into next weekend. Forecasters note that the ongoing dry pattern could continue to elevate wildfire potential in rural areas.
Residents should stay hydrated and take precautions for outdoor work, as heat indices may briefly top 90°F during the afternoon hours.
