Abilene, Texas – West Central Texas will see a gradual warming trend through midweek, but cold mornings and another late-week cold front will keep winter conditions in place.

According to the National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo, temperatures will slowly moderate through Thursday, with daytime highs climbing back into the upper 40s and 50s. Despite the modest warm-up, morning lows will continue to fall to at or below freezing across much of the region.

Forecast data shows overnight lows dipping into the 20s and lower 30s through the workweek, with some locations falling into the teens by Saturday morning following the arrival of another cold front late Thursday into Friday. Forecasters caution residents not to remove cold-weather protections just yet.

Cities affected include Abilene, San Angelo, Brownwood, Sweetwater, Brady, Ballinger, Coleman, and Junction. Areas along Interstate 20, U.S. Highway 83, U.S. Highway 84, U.S. Highway 87, and Loop 306 may notice the coldest conditions during early morning hours, especially in rural and low-lying locations.

The National Weather Service notes that dry conditions are expected to continue through next weekend, and recent indications of possible wintry precipitation have largely diminished. Any precipitation chances that return next week are expected to fall as rain, as temperatures should be warm enough by then.

Residents are advised to continue protecting exposed pipes, bringing pets indoors overnight, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. Morning commuters should be prepared for cold starts and allow vehicles extra warm-up time.

Students, agricultural workers, and early-shift employees may experience the greatest impacts during pre-dawn hours when temperatures are coldest.

Forecasters emphasize that while a gradual warm-up is underway, winter is not finished, and another round of colder air will reinforce freezing conditions heading into the weekend.
