Abilene, Texas – Much of West Central Texas will stay locked in a hot and dry stretch through next week, with daytime highs reaching the low to mid-90s and little relief from cloud cover. The only break could come this weekend when isolated thunderstorms may develop along a line from Haskell to Ozona.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, high pressure will dominate the region, keeping skies mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Rain chances remain slim, but forecasters warn that Saturday night into Sunday could bring scattered showers and storms west of the Haskell–Ozona line, potentially producing lightning and brief downpours.

Cities including Abilene, San Angelo, Ballinger, and Brownwood are expected to see afternoon highs consistently in the 90s, with overnight lows staying in the mid-60s. The warm, stagnant air will raise concerns for those working outdoors or traveling long distances, as road heat and dehydration risks remain elevated.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, and check vehicles for children and pets as temperatures inside cars can soar within minutes.

The heat pattern looks to persist into the middle of next week, with only limited storm chances returning by the weekend.
