Abilene, Texas – Outdoor events across West Central Texas could face brief interruptions Friday evening as thunderstorms clip the region, bringing a small but notable weather risk. The National Weather Service says a 20% chance of storms may impact Friday night activities, including high school football games, before cooler air settles in.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, temperatures at kickoff will sit near 90 degrees but are expected to fall quickly through the 80s and into the 70s after sunset. Winds will shift north at 5 to 10 mph, with gusts closer to 10 mph in the Big Country. Conditions will feel more comfortable by late evening as the cold front progresses.

Any thunderstorms that develop could bring brief lightning delays or slick field conditions. Event planners and attendees are advised to keep an eye on the sky and have a plan to move indoors if storms develop.

The overall storm risk is low, but forecasters stress that even isolated cells can cause dangerous lightning. Warnings remain possible into the evening, particularly north of San Angelo and Abilene.
