Abilene, TX Weather: 10 Days Over 100° Marked a Hotter-Than-Normal August

Abilene, Texas – August closed with two very different weather stories across West-Central Texas. Abilene ran hotter and drier than normal, while San Angelo saw slightly cooler conditions with above-normal rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, Abilene measured just 1.60 inches of rain in August, nearly an inch below average, while San Angelo picked up 2.60 inches—slightly above normal. Year-to-date totals now sit at 16.87 inches in Abilene and 21.23 inches in San Angelo.

Temperatures followed a similar divide. Abilene averaged 85 degrees, nearly a full degree above normal, with 10 days topping 100. The hottest readings reached 103 on August 9, 14, and 29. San Angelo, meanwhile, averaged 83.5 degrees, about half a degree cooler than usual, with seven days reaching 100. Its hottest day peaked at 101 on August 14, 24, and 29.

The cooler nights in San Angelo, including a low of 64 on August 24, contrasted with Abilene’s warmest nights, where lows averaged 73.

The National Weather Service notes both cities should prepare for another stretch of heat heading into early September, with updates expected later this week.
