San Angelo, Texas – Friday night football and outdoor plans across West Central Texas may face an unwelcome visitor: lightning. A cold front moving through the region this evening is expected to bring cooler temperatures, gusty winds, and a slight chance (20%) of thunderstorms that could disrupt events across the Big Country and South Plains.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, the front will shift winds from the south to the northeast by late evening, with gusts up to 10 mph. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms could begin as early as 6 p.m., increasing the risk of lightning through the night.

Temperatures will dip gradually: upper 80s to low 90s at 6 p.m., mid to upper 80s by 8 p.m., and lower 70s north of I-20 by 10 p.m. Overcast skies are expected to linger, and while the rain chance remains low at 20%, any thunderstorm could bring lightning hazards.

Those attending outdoor events, especially high school football games, are urged to stay weather-aware. Make sure mobile alerts are active, avoid open fields during storms, and have a safe shelter nearby.

Showers will taper off overnight, but additional advisories may follow if storm coverage increases.
