Abilene, TX – Residents across West-Central Texas should prepare for a stretch of warm, dry weather lasting through early next week. Afternoon highs are expected to remain well above normal, reaching the mid-80s to mid-90s, according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo.
Forecasters said Thursday will see morning lows in the mid-50s to upper 60s, with highs climbing into the upper 80s to mid-90s. Friday through Sunday will bring similar conditions, with nighttime lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s and afternoon temperatures topping out in the 90s. By Monday, the pattern will continue with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.
According to the National Weather Service, the persistent dry conditions mean no significant rainfall is expected across the region. That could raise concerns for drought-stressed areas and increase the risk of grassfires, particularly in rural counties surrounding Abilene, San Angelo, and the Concho Valley.
The agency advises residents to stay alert for changing fire weather conditions, conserve water where possible, and take precautions against heat during afternoon outdoor activities. While the heat is not record-breaking, it is notably warmer than seasonal averages for early October.
Motorists and travelers should also be prepared for extended periods of sun exposure, especially during peak afternoon hours when temperatures will be at their highest.
