Port Huron, MI – A coordinated law enforcement operation led to the seizure of 177 kilograms (390 pounds) of cocaine in St. Clair County, marking one of Michigan’s most significant drug interdictions this year.
Members of the Homeland Security Task Force North (HSTF) initiated the bust on Tuesday evening, after observing two commercial vehicles with Ontario license plates at a local truck stop. The vehicles left the location separately, triggering an investigation that culminated in a traffic stop and bridge inspection.
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, the first vehicle was intercepted at the Blue Water Bridge with assistance from K9 Argo of the Warren Police Department. Officers discovered the massive cocaine haul during an inspection. Meanwhile, the second vehicle was pulled over after multiple traffic violations. A K9 unit from the sheriff’s office, K9 Brock, alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting a search.
Multiple agencies were involved in the operation, including Homeland Security Investigations, the Port Huron Police Department, Warren Police Department, Ontario Provincial Police, Canada Border Services Agency, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
“Thank you to the law enforcement officers involved in this case for their dedication to disrupting the dispersal of narcotics into the community,” said Sheriff Mat King. “The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office prioritizes community safety and values multi-jurisdictional efforts that combine skills, resources and knowledge.”
The suspects’ identities and charges have not yet been released. Authorities have not confirmed whether the vehicles were acting in coordination or transporting drugs for the same source.
The seizure is part of broader efforts by HSTF and border enforcement agencies to combat cross-border narcotics trafficking in Michigan and the Great Lakes region.
