Chicago, IL – Severe storms swept through northern Illinois last night, leaving nearly 30,000 ComEd customers without power. The storms, which included strong winds and heavy rain, caused widespread damage across the northern and northwest Chicago suburbs. Trees and power lines were downed, including in areas near the Northwestern University campus, disrupting both power and traffic.

Heavy rain also led to street flooding, adding to the chaos. Crews are now working to clear debris and restore power to the affected areas. According to ComEd, they aim to restore electricity to most customers by the end of the day.

Despite the widespread damage, local counties escaped the worst of the storm’s impact. Only about 30 customers in the area are without power this morning. ComEd expects to have power fully restored to these local customers by 10 a.m. as crews continue to address storm-related issues across the region.
