Quad Cities, IA/IL — The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities reports a new winter system is expected to move into eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois late Saturday into Saturday night, bringing the potential for 2 to 4 inches of accumulating snow across the region.

Meteorologists say there is currently a 40 to 60 percent chance that at least 2 inches of snow will accumulate, with higher probabilities stretching from Cedar Rapids and Dubuque southward toward Princeton and Peoria. While confidence in exact snow totals remains moderate, forecasters agree that travel could be impacted Saturday evening as snow begins to intensify.

“Another round of accumulating snow is expected this weekend,” the NWS said early Wednesday morning. “Roads may become slick, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours as snow covers previously cleared surfaces.”

The snow will develop Saturday afternoon and continue overnight before tapering early Sunday. Visibility could drop significantly during heavier bursts, and packed snow on untreated roads may lead to slippery driving conditions.

Highs Saturday will remain in the mid-20s to lower 30s, keeping precipitation primarily as snow. Winds will be light to moderate, reducing the risk of blowing snow but maintaining cold, steady conditions into Sunday morning.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and plan accordingly for slower travel and possible winter weather advisories later this week.
