Blacksburg, VA – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg says another round of snow is expected to move across the lower Mid-Atlantic early Monday morning, potentially making for a slick start to the workweek across parts of southwest Virginia and southern West Virginia.
Forecasters report that 1 to 2 inches of snow are likely across the mountains south of Highway 460, with lower totals expected farther north and east. The snow is forecast to begin before sunrise Monday and continue into the evening, tapering off later in the day.
The NWS warns that snow may accumulate on untreated roads and overpasses, especially in higher elevations. Drivers should prepare for reduced visibility and slippery travel conditions, particularly during the morning commute.
“Confidence is increasing for accumulating snow Monday morning,” the agency said. “Even light snow could cause hazardous driving conditions on secondary and elevated roadways.”
Travelers in areas such as Blacksburg, Hillsville, and Galax should use caution, allow extra travel time, and monitor local forecasts for updates as temperatures hover near freezing.
