St. Louis, MO – After recent stretches of summer warmth, Missouri residents can expect a brief period of cooler, below-average temperatures before showers and thunderstorms return later next week.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, dry weather and comfortable temperatures are expected Sunday, June 14, and Monday, June 15, as a cooler air mass settles across eastern Missouri and western Illinois.

High temperatures Sunday are forecast to range from 70 to 77 degrees, with overnight lows falling into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Monday will remain pleasant, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the mid-70s to around 80 degrees.

The cooler conditions are expected to provide a temporary break from the heat and humidity that have impacted portions of the region in recent weeks.

Forecasters say the weather pattern will begin changing Tuesday as moisture gradually returns to the area. A 20% to 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast Tuesday, with highs ranging from 77 to 83 degrees.

Rain chances continue increasing Wednesday, when scattered showers and thunderstorms become more likely across much of the region. The National Weather Service currently forecasts a 30% to 60% chance of precipitation Wednesday, accompanied by warmer temperatures in the lower to upper 80s.

Additional shower and thunderstorm chances are expected Thursday, with highs generally ranging from 80 to 85 degrees.

While no widespread severe weather is currently forecast, residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates as the midweek storm system develops.

The overall pattern points toward a return to warmer and more unsettled conditions after a brief stretch of comfortable weather to start the week.
