Pedestrian Hit-and-Run at Indiana Grocery Store, Suspect Charged

CHESTERTON, Ind. – The Chesterton Police Department (CPD) announced Thursday afternoon the arrest of a suspect in connection with an alleged hit-and-run incident in the Jewel/Osco parking lot on Wednesday, Nov. 15. 

Douglas Poole, 66, from Liberty Township, has been charged with leaving the scene of a serious bodily injury accident, a Level 6 felony. According to police reports the incident, which occurred early Wednesday afternoon leaving a 42-year-old Michigan City woman injured after she was struck by a driver in the Jewel/Osco parking lot. The accident left the woman with a serious injury to her left leg.

Detectives received a crucial tip from a witness who had seen video surveillance captures of the suspect vehicle posted on social media. He was later located in unincorporated Liberty Township. Poole reportedly confessed to the alleged hit-and-run during a subsequent interview.

Assistant Police Chief Cisco Rodriguez expressed gratitude towards the community and his team, emphasizing the role of community cooperation in resolving the case swiftly.
