Grant County, IN – A tragic accident occurred on I-69 northbound near the 269 mile-marker early this morning, resulting in the death of an Indianapolis man. The incident, which involved three vehicles, prompted a swift response from local law enforcement and emergency services.

According to the Indiana State Police, the crash took place at around 9:35 a.m., involving a 2009 Chrysler minivan driven by 61-year-old Darren T. Davis of Indianapolis, who tragically died at the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that Davis’s vehicle collided with the rear of a 2022 Chevrolet Express van, operated by Michael R. Cavacini, 49, also from Indianapolis. The impact pushed Cavacini’s vehicle into a 2021 Freightliner Semi, driven by 27-year-old Tondra L. Pace from Rome, GA.

Both Cavacini and Pace sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have stated that neither alcohol nor narcotics appear to have been factors in the accident.

The Indiana State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement and the Crash Reconstruction Team are assisting in the ongoing investigation. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
