BENTON COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced a scheduled closure that will impact both northbound and southbound lanes of State Road 71. The section over the Gretencord Ditch, close to Mud Creek, will be closed for significant infrastructure work starting on or after Tuesday, April 9. The undertaking will involve replacing a box culvert, an essential component for road safety and water management.

The project is slated to continue until the early days of July, although the timeline is dependent on favorable weather conditions and may be adjusted accordingly. INDOT has designated State Road 18 to U.S. 41 to U.S. 24 as the official detour route to navigate around the closure.

INDOT urges the public to plan their commutes accordingly and suggests seeking alternative pathways to circumvent the construction zone. Emphasizing safety, the department reminds drivers to adhere to posted speed limits, remain vigilant, and avoid distractions, especially when driving through work zones. Keeping safety as a priority, these measures aim to protect both the construction crews and the traveling public during this period of roadway enhancement.
