OAK LAWN, Ill. — The Oak Lawn Public Library is calling all bakers and crafters to participate in its highly anticipated gingerbread house competition, set to kick off on December 4. This festive event, open to participants of all ages, promises to fill the library with an array of creative and delicious gingerbread houses, with categories for Youth, Teen, and Adult participants.

The competition, a holiday highlight in the Oak Lawn community, encourages families, friends, and solo artists to bring their confectionery skills to the fore. Entrants are required to submit their gingerbread creations, no larger than 18 by 18 inches, to the library by December 11. Participants are limited to one entry per category, ensuring a diverse and exciting range of styles and designs.

In addition to showcasing their gingerbread talents, participants will be rewarded with a sweet incentive. Every entry will receive a coupon for two free cupcakes from the local favorite, Simply Sweet Creations Bakery. The bakery, led by the renowned Adriana Aranda, is not only providing delicious treats but also contributing to various December programs at the library.

The community will have a chance to view and vote on these holiday masterpieces, with winners announced on December 19. Prizes include Squishmallows for the top three in the Youth category and coveted gift cards for Teen and Adult winners. A special Chef’s Choice prize will also be awarded by Chef Adriana in the Teen and Adult categories.

Beyond the competition, the library is hosting an array of gingerbread-themed activities throughout December. These include a code-cracking game for children and a Take-and-Make ginger spice kit for adults and teens, complete with recipes and a cupcake coupon, courtesy of Royal Family Roasters and Simply Sweet Creations.

The Oak Lawn Public Library is excited to bring the community together for this unique celebration of creativity and holiday spirit. For more information or to participate, contact the library’s Youth Services or Adult/Young Adult Services Departments at (708) 422-4990. Let the holiday magic begin!
