NEWPORT TOWNSHIP, IL – A devastating traffic crash claimed the life of a 72-year-old Indian Creek man in unincorporated Zion Tuesday morning.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that around 9:15 a.m., on West Russell Road at Park Lane, a head-on collision occurred between a Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Malibu, both vehicles suffering significant damage.

Authorities believe the Ford, driven by a 46-year-old Milwaukee, Wisconsin resident, unexpectedly swerved into oncoming traffic, colliding with the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet’s driver tragically lost his life on the spot, while the Ford’s driver, severely injured, was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
