Women Injured in Illinois Sledgehammer Attack; Assailant Shot by Police

ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – Two women are recovering from serious injuries after a horrifying sledgehammer attack in a residential area on Redwood Drive.

According to Lake County Major Crimes Task Force reports, officers responded to a 911 call around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Round Lake Beach police discovered the injured women in a garage, with wounds indicating a brutal assault. 

As officers intervened, they confronted the armed man on an elevated porch. Initial efforts to subdue him with a Taser were unsuccessful. The situation escalated, leading officers to shoot the assailant as he reportedly advanced threatening the officers.

Both women were promptly transported to a local hospital to address their head and facial injuries. The attacker, after receiving on-the-spot first aid, was also taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force has initiated an independent investigation into the incident, with updates to follow as the inquiry unfolds.
