Momence, IL – The Momence community is facing a tragic loss with the passing of a 9th-grade female student at Momence High School, who collapsed during a basketball warm-up and later died. The incident occurred on Thursday night and has deeply impacted the community.

In response to this tragedy, the girl’s family has established a GoFundMe page to cover funeral expenses, with a goal of raising $15,000. The fundraiser, organized by Michelle Crite, Amari’s mother, is a poignant appeal for support: “As some if not all of you may know our precious baby girl passed away last night January 25 when she collapsed at her basketball game. We are asking for any and everyone to help us give her the proper home going she deserves.”

Local schools are extending their support, with institutions like Bishop McNamara Catholic School and Central High School expressing solidarity and offering condolences. The school has assured that mental health and counseling support are available for all who are affected as they work through their grief. The community is reminded of the importance of coming together to support one another in these sorrowful times.

The cause of the student’s death has not yet been released.
