Kane County, IL – A chilling case unfolds in Kane County as Douglas Ottesen faces charges including first-degree murder after investigators found human remains inside a Hampshire Township home. The investigation, led by the Crystal Lake Police Department, began on April 4, when James Cromwell, 57, was reported missing.

On May 7, Cromwell’s remains were discovered in a residence on the 45W200 block of Illinois Route 72. The Kane County Coroner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound, ruling it a homicide.

The case deepened with search warrants executed at a location in the 600 block of North Falls Circle in Pingree Grove. Ottesen now confronts several charges, from aggravated kidnapping to unlawful possession of weapons and ammunition. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser praised the investigative team’s relentless pursuit of justice in this harrowing case.
