Addison, IL – A domestic disturbance investigation in Addison resulted in a suspect being taken into custody early Sunday after police responded to reports that a gunshot had been fired outside an apartment building.

According to the Addison Police Department, officers were dispatched around midnight to the 300 block of North State Street following reports of a domestic incident. Witnesses told investigators that the alleged offender fired a gunshot during the incident before entering the apartment building.

Police said no individuals were struck by the gunfire, and no injuries were reported.

As officers secured the area and investigated the situation, the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) SWAT team was called to assist. Authorities later obtained and executed a search warrant for the apartment connected to the incident.

According to police, officers successfully located the alleged offender inside the building and took the individual into custody without further incident.

Officials stated that all individuals involved in the incident have been accounted for and that the scene has been cleared. Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect or announced potential charges.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.

Addison police credited multiple law enforcement agencies for assisting during the response, including the Itasca Police Department, Wood Dale Police Department, Elmhurst Police Department, Bensenville Police Department, DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and members of the NIPAS SWAT team.

Authorities also thanked residents for their patience during the incident, which prompted a significant police presence in the area while officers worked to safely resolve the situation.

As with all criminal investigations, any charges that may result are allegations, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
