Fort Myers, FL – An unsuspecting alert from a smart thermostat unveiled a startling scene for an out-of-state homeowner in Lee County.
According to Lee County Sheriff’s Department reports, Emmanuel Pierre, 25, of Fort Myers had allegedly moved into the home, cooking meals, driving the owner’s car, and even setting up a PlayStation in a bedroom. The homeowner was only alerted to the alleged squatter through an alert by a smart thermostat temperature change. The shock was palpable when they saw Pierre driving their car into the garage. Quick action by the homeowner kept Pierre trapped until deputies arrived.
Pierre now facing charges of Burglary, Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and Grand Theft exceeding $750.
