Kankakee exceeds 8,000 COVID cases in pandemic, 4,000+ active

Kankakee reports just over daily average for month at 187 new cases Tuesday afternoon

KANKAKEE – Kankakee County reported one case above what has become the daily average in November Tuesday.

In total, 187 new reported cases of COVID-19 were announced by the Kankakee County Health Department (KCHD) Tuesday afternoon.  Since November 2nd, the daily average has been 186 new cases a day.  In that time, 4,097 new reported cases have been announced locally in the county.  There are now 4,148 cases active in Kankakee County.

Since March, 8,111 cases have been reported in the area.

There have now been 26 deaths from the pandemic in Kankakee since November 2nd, 8 of which have been announced since Monday.  A total of 103 residents have lost their battles with COVID-19 since the pandemic began.  This afternoon, 81 residents were hospitalized in Kankakee with COVID battles of their own.

The area fell slightly in regional positivity Tuesday afternoon for the fifth straight day in Region 7 Tuesday.  The weekly positivity rate now stands at 18.5%.
